8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

This year’s 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will be held on the last day of school Thursday June 7th, 2012 at 4:00PM.  The Ceremony will be held at Newark Memorial High School Football Field. Letters outlining the details will be sent home to 8th Grade parents on May 14th with their students. These will need to be signed and returned by Friday May 18th, 2012 to participate in the promotion ceremony.

WE ARE IN URGENT NEED OF  HOST FAMILES

  • Newark Jr. High has the opportunity to become a sister school with Qiantang Middle School in China. As a part of this relationship, Qiantang school will be sending over 22 exchange students this summer for a tour of America. We need 11 families to host 2 students each. During the day, the students will spend time with their delegation sightseeing  and visiting schools throughout the Bay Area. They would then spend the remainder of the day and evening with your family.
  • The Chinese students will arrive on July 22nd and leave on July 27th. This is a great opportunity for our students, school, and community. This is also a chance for your child to cultivate a friendship with another child his/her age in a foreign country and learn many new things based on that relationship.
  •
  • If are able and would like to be a host family, please contact Mr. Neal at Mneal@nusd.k12.ca.usor Charlene Aquino at CAquino@nusd.k12.ca.us. You can also reach both at 510-818-3002.

  • We would need to have an answer by May 25th.  Thank you for your consideration.

4thQuarter Rules for 8thGraders

As per Pg. 9 in our student handbook,“Although disciplinary actions could result in loss of End-of-the-Year Celebration privileges at any time during the school year, specific rules will apply for 8th graders during the 4th quarter. Violation of these rules will result in the loss of the privilege to participate in these activities. The accumulation of three “points” during 4th quarter will result in the loss of the privilege of attending the 8th grade dance. The accumulation of four points will result in the loss of the privilege of attending all End-of-the-Year Celebration Events” (i.e. – the 8th grade promotion ceremony and dance). “Points are earned in the following ways:

  • Behavioral referral 1 point
  • Class cut or class suspension 2 points
  • Suspension of 1-2 school days 3 points
  • Suspension of 3 or more days 4 points”

ATTENTION TARGET REDcard HOLDERS---Help Support NJHS

Are you a Target Red Card holder?  If so, please consider linking your card to NJHS.

Our school # is 33683.

We have 1,000 students but currently only 18 of our families are registered REDcard holders.  Not only does the school receive 1% of all purchases made by REDcard, but consumers receive 5% off of all purchases, as well, even on sale items.  It’s a win-win for NJHS.  We thank you in advance for your support!

Go to https://redcard.target.com/redcard/rc_main.jsp to register your card.  THANKS!

Value of the Month

"Being Honest"

The May Value of the Month at NewarkJunior High Schoolis “Being Honest”.  Honesty is the best policy as they say. It is important to be honest with others and with yourself. If you tell the truth, even though it may be difficult for the present situation, it will be better in the end. If you are honest, friends, family, and teachers will trust you. Trust is a very important thing. If you lose someone’s trust, it is very hard to earn it back. Keep being honest in May and in the future as you learn and grow moving towards high school, college, and beyond!

Safety Corner

Parents: Please be patient in our parking lot as it tends to be very crowded during the rainy season. Also, a reminder about the mornings: please do not drop off your child before 8:00 a.m. Parents, please do not stop in the fire lane where the curbs are painted red when dropping off or picking up your child.

Students: If you walk to school and pass by the football field, continue on the Lafayette Avenue sidewalk until you get to the front of the school.  DO NOT walk across the parking lot before school or after school to save time. Stay on the sidewalk and be safe!
