This year marks the 27th year of this Statewide Fireworks Safety and Education Program. Last year we distributed almost 1 million safety brochures and hundreds of videos in school districts throughout California. As a result, last year there were even fewer problems and 2017 may go down as one of the safest 4 th of July's in recent California history.

This school district has once again agreed to participate in this Safety & Education Program offered free from the Office of the California State Fire Marshal. By simply clicking on the link 'California Fireworks School Safety & Education Program / Digital Delivery', you'll be taken to a website where you can review, view, print and/or download the State Fire Marshal's safety brochures and safety videos regarding responsible use of state-approved fireworks as well as the dangers and safety risks posed by the use of illegal fireworks.

Please feel free to share this link with your students and their parents and help make this 4th of July the safest celebration ever.

We are recruiting students going into grades 6-12 to be Newark Library Summer Squad Volunteers.  We are scheduling volunteers from June 14-August 5 and aiming to have two volunteers scheduled for every hour the library is open to help facilitate our summer reading program. So we will need at least 80 volunteers this summer.  There is a required orientation on June 5 or June 10.

We also need high school age volunteers to help out with our special events this summer, everything from a Petting Zoo and Carnival to Chess Camp.

Please let us know if it would be helpful for us to bring by copies of the summer volunteer flyer and application.

All are encouraged to participate in Alameda County Library's Ready for Tomorrow Summer Reading program http://summer.aclibrary.org. Read and try out new activities to earn points and prizes. You can sign up now and start earning points June 1st.
